Write for us!

Are you a talented writer?

If you are, you are probably frustrated by the lack of outlets for your work.

News Troupe accepts material from anyone. However, please, please take the time to read the submission guidelines opposite. If work is incorrectly formatted then the odds are we won't have time to read it!

We pay for material used where possible, but payment is at the moment not guaranteed and dependent on a number of factors!

Writing guidelines

We accept short sketches and songs.

Sketches should be around one page long, possibly two if it's a cracker, and absolutely never more than three.

We deal with topical comedy, so if it ain't in the news, it ain't gonna go in!

Please email your sketches and songs in MS Word or Rich Text Format. If you are using Word 2007, please save as an earlier version of Word.

At the top of the document, please write the sketch title, your name and email address. Please put the title of the sketch in the subject line of the email.

Songs

You are more likely to get a song in the show than a sketch. Songs are dynamic crowd-pleasers.

Song spoofs should be based on well-known originals: think Abba, Beatles, '60s classics and any tune that's a well-known toe-tapper!

Work from the original song to create a recognisable number with satirical spin. Pack it with laughs and it's got a good chance of getting in!

Sketches

There is a lot of competition for time on stage so make sure your sketch is as good as it can be before sending it!

Pieces should be for a maximum of 4 people. We like to have a good mix of one, two, three and four-handers in the show.

Successful performance sketches start and finish with a big laugh. Make sure there's a punchline.

We also accept topical gags.
